Economic Development Winnipeg Inc. Congratulates Interactive Media Companies on National Win
December 3, 2010: Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeg-based Complex Games Inc., Tactica Interactive and Merit Motion Pictures have been recognized among Canada's most innovative and creative media companies, receiving a 2010 Canadian New Media Award in the category of Best Web-Based Game for their work on One Ocean online. The awards were presented December 1st in Toronto at the 10th annual event celebrating Canada’s interactive media specialists.
One Ocean is a documentary mini-series produced by Winnipeg’s Merit Motion Pictures and CBC’s The Nature of Things with David Suzuki. One Ocean online, developed by Tactica Interactive and Complex Games Inc., is an online virtual world and interactive experience designed to engage and educate viewers beyond the documentary. By providing an interactive virtual biosphere the games communicate the challenges and threats facing the oceans today through images, sound, and most importantly, play.
Founded in 2001, Complex Games Inc. was one of the first teams selected for the Fortune Cat Video Games Studio incubator, and is now Manitoba's largest video game and interactive development studio. “The Canadian New Media Award provides us with national recognition for the quality of work that our interactive firm produces,” says Noah Decter-Jackson, President, Complex Games Inc. “This recognition will likely lead to further work opportunities and potential growth down the road.”

The country’s only nationwide competition recognizing the accomplishments of Canada’s most successful digital media companies, The 10th Annual Canadian New Media Awards were held at The Design Exchange in Toronto Wednesday, December 1st as part of a two-day interactive and new media conference, nextMEDIA Toronto.
