'Loop’ing in locals to every opportunity to explore Winnipeg
WINNIPEG, MB – Economic Development Winnipeg and Tourism Winnipeg are encouraging Winnipeggers and Manitobans to explore some amazing outdoor opportunities right in their own backyard. It’s a great way to take advantage of the historical, cultural and architectural gems our city offers while supporting Winnipeg businesses and attractions.
Locals and visitors alike can take a look at the updated map of The Winnipeg Loop then plan their self-guided walking tour that can be completed in 3.5 hours. The Winnipeg Loop starts under the canopy at the Forks Market Plaza, stretches 9.5 kilometres and highlights nearly 60 significant spots and attractions throughout St. Boniface, the Exchange District and Downtown Winnipeg.
In addition to a downloadable brochure of the Winnipeg Loop, the new integrated map will allow people to explore the loop via their smartphone. However, if people want a hard copy brochure, it will also be available for pickup at hotels and attractions throughout the city.
The launch of the new integrated map is just in time to celebrate National Tourism Week, May 24 -May 31. The week is meant to remind people about the importance of tourism to our city. Last year, the tourism industry supported 48,000 jobs and 4,000 businesses in Winnipeg.
“We know our local shops, hotels, restaurants and attractions are struggling, and this is the ideal time to encourage Winnipeggers to be a tourist in their own city. They can take in all the history, architecture and culture that makes Winnipeg so vibrant while supporting the tourism industry that contributes so much to our city and economy,” says Dayna Spiring, CEO & President of Economic Development Winnipeg.
The Winnipeg Loop was first introduced in 2012 to showcase Winnipeg’s exciting urban areas. Now, with social distancing becoming a larger concern and at the top of people’s minds, the loop offers visitors a chance to get outside safely while enjoying and supporting local tourism.
"We can sometimes take for granted what we have right outside our front door, but the doors are open on some of our amazing attractions, hotels and shops, so we need to support them. The beauty of the Winnipeg Loop is that you can explore our amazing city in a matter of hours or create a plan to see spots, enjoy restaurants and attractions throughout the summer. We’re hoping people will choose the latter option and enjoy multiple trips that will give a much-needed boost to local business,” adds Spiring.
