YES! Winnipeg is driven by the private sector. It consistently works to ensure Winnipeg is a top choice for business and top talent. That's why it made sense to ask two strong leaders from Winnipeg's private sector to lead YW's Real Impact campaign; a five-year plan to create more jobs, retain and attract business and investment to our city. Learn a little more about our Co-Chairs, Brad Peacock, President & Chief Investment Officer at Megill-Stephenson and Andrew Stibbard, Regional Managing Partner at MNP.
Name a family tradition you love and can’t live without?
Brad: When I was a child, every Christmas morning, the very first thing we would do was read the letter that Santa left for us. He had remarkable intel on different events that happened with us throughout the year and sprinkled many life lessons and friendly reminders in his annual note. Not only were they a treat to read at the time, but in subsequent years, the opportunity to go back and re-read these at Christmas time brought back great memories. I believe it was my mother that served as the inside scoop for Santa. This tradition has carried on with my kids as well.
Andrew: Not big on family traditions but we do spend a lot of time at Victoria Beach and we love it.
What do you love most about living in Winnipeg and why?
Brad: It is the people of Winnipeg; strong character, humility, hardworking, with great community spirit.
Andrew: Great people and four distinct seasons.
What's your favourite activity during a Winnipeg winter and where?
Brad: Hitting an outdoor rink. Woodhaven Community Club is the favourite and has been a gem in St. James for decades.
Andrew: Watching one of my three kids playing hockey and watching the Winnipeg Jets at Bell MTS Place (normally) – this year it has been walking our new black lab.
If you had to pick an anthem, song or saying that describes you and Winnipeg at the same time, what would it be?
Brad: Have to go with a Winnipeg connection and say BTO’s “Taking Care of Business” (and no Stibby, it’s not because the lyrics say, 'I love to work at nothing all day').
Andrew: No anthem, sorry.
What is your motto?
Brad: Be fair and reasonable.
Andrew: No motto sorry—but I do believe in having fun and working hard.
We hear you can be quite competitive with one another. Tell us more.
Brad: I just try to be the best person I can be and Andrew constantly reminds me of why I am not! It keeps me grounded.
Andrew: I love my co-chair. If I could pick any Winnipegger to co-chair with, Brad Peacock would be on that list. If my list had 250 names on it, he would be one of them.
