We may be facing tighter restrictions but that doesn't need to restrict your holiday shopping. You can shop often and shop local right from the comfort of your home. You’ll be supporting businesses and helping to build back the Winnipeg and Manitoba economy.
One place to start is goodlocal.ca. Co-created by former Blue Bomber turned serial entrepreneur Obby Khan. The new website is a one-stop-shop for people to buy all things local. He calls it the ‘local Amazon’ for Winnipeg. Pick and buy your favourite made-in-Manitoba items from clothing designers to home decor and health and beauty. Downtown Winnipeg BIZ has has an awesome gift basket on the site filled with great local goodies. Get them delivered to your door for $5 or it’s free if you pick them up.
Fetchlocal.ca is also offering gift-giving options individually or in packages, including a very fitting Manitoba Strong package. The creators behind this website are using 20 years of experience in supply chain management to promote locally and ethically made products with a focus on environmental sustainability. Delivery costs range from free to additional costs for expedited shipping.
Made Here is also offering Manitoba-made options beautifully-boxed and ready for curbside pickup, delivery and province-wide shipping. Your favourite family members will thank you and so will local makers.
Another option for great gift box and gift bag gathering can be found at the aptly named, The Good Gift Box. You can pick up everything from treats and treasures to Turkish towels from makers right across Canada and here in Winnipeg. You could buy pre-made boxes or create your own, filled with Manitoba makers.
The West End BIZ has put together locally sourced holiday gift boxes with goods from 14 different businesses in the West End. Each gift box is available for purchase online until December 11th and can be picked up on December 16th.
Black Market Provisions has also created some curated gift boxes that will wow your loved ones with options like 'Food Faves' to 'Cocktail Connoisseur' and 'Everything they want'.
Taradavis.ca in our fabulous Exchange District is always looking for "delightful goodies made with love in Canada by over 100 dreamers and makers" so check out and support this beautiful gift and art boutique. She is also putting together great gift box ideas for the holiday season.
You can still peruse potential presents from St. Norbert Farmer’s market online and find more than 1,000 products from more than 50 local makers. Delivery is currently not an option but you can pre-order, pay and swing by the market for pick-up.
Many large craft shows have had to cancel because of restrictions on large gatherings but you can still support local artisans through shopmalyy. 'Malyy' is Ukrainian for 'small' and the website was created to support the local maker movement.
