Winnipeg is a culturally diverse city where more than 100 languages are spoken. 25% of the population are immigrants and fittingly the city is home to Folklorama, the world’s largest and longest-running multicultural festival. Over 12% of Winnipeg’s population identify as Indigenous with events and celebrations including Indigenous Day Live and the Manito Ahbee Festival. The city also has a robust French population and history playing host to Festival du Voyageur, Western Canada’s largest winter festival which celebrates the region’s francophone, Métis and Indigenous culture and history. Among immigrants in 2021, 46,495 came between 2016 and 2021. Top three places of birth for immigrants to Winnipeg CMA are: the Philippines, India and China.

Break out those shades – Winnipeg enjoys an average 318 days of sunshine per year. That’s about 21 days more sunshine than the Canadian average! In a province-by-province comparison, Manitobans get over 500 more hours of clear skies each year - that's almost 21 days! The lowest average monthly winter temperature is –16.3 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Farhernheit) in January and the warmest summer monthly average temperature is 19.5 degrees Celsius (67.1 degrees Fahrenheit) in July. Spring and fall are Winnipeg’s shortest seasons where temperatures vary.

Winnipeg has some of the shortest commuting times for a large North American city, with an average commute of only 20 minutes.

Uber and taxi service are available 24 hours a day, while other ride-share companies include TappCar, My Cab App by Greencity, ReRyde, Uride and WinRyde.

A citywide transit network provides transportation options in every neighbourhood. Most bus routes connect to downtown, with additional busses during peak commute times. A citywide bus rapid transit expansion continues to be added to each year with the total project set to be completed by 2030.

You won’t believe your eyes when polar bears swim just inches over your head at the multi-award-winning Journey to Churchill in Assiniboine Park Zoo – the world’s foremost Arctic species exhibit.

The Forks is the city’s most-visited tourist attraction with a wide array of shops, restaurants, museums, and public art installations. On its grounds you can’t miss The the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, an architectural marvel and winner of over 50 international, national and regional awards. Inside its glass cloud you’ll ascend through 11 interactive, awe-inspiring galleries to the Tower of Hope, which provides spectacular vistas of the city.

Winnipeg boasts a number of professional sports franchises, including the Winnipeg Jets (National Hockey League), Manitoba Moose (American Hockey League), Winnipeg Blue Bombers (12 time Grey Cup Champions of the Canadian Football League, and host of the 2025 Grey Cup Championship), the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball's 2017 champions, the Winnipeg Goldeyes and Valour FC (Winnipeg's soccer club that competes in the Canadian Premiere League).
