Neighbourhoods

With 236 neighbourhoods in the city, there is a community for everyone. Within these zones, approximately 186 can be considered residential, with the remainder classified as industrial.

The average population of each of Winnipeg’s residential neighbourhoods is approximately 4,000 people and includes a mix of commercial facilities, transportation choices, schools, recreational areas, libraries and parks.

Many of Winnipeg’s neighbourhoods have a unique historic identity. Moving directly south and west from downtown you’ll encounter handsome heritage status areas featuring century-old elm canopies and stately houses, while the further you go from downtown in each direction you’ll encounter new developments where the city encroaches on the surrounding prairie.
